Why do we say “partner”?

Some might ask “why do we call people church partners, not church members?” Membership in our culture is about privilege. It is about what I receive or what I get out of the organization. I may donate, or pay dues, but that gets me SOMETHING. Partnership means that I participate in the mission of the organization. Our Mission is “Growing communities where people are becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus!” Partners seek to be used to further the mission of the organization. Partners believe in the mission. When you are a partner, you invest. You take risks for the endeavor. A partner participates!

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.“ (1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NLT)
