When people think of you what is the first thing they think about? Scary question if you consider it. When someone considers your name what are the qualities about you that first come to mind? I ponder this regularly when I meet with couples who are preparing to be married. One question I ask every couple is this: What one character trait do you most love and admire about your fiancé? When I was a kid and I heard my mom yell my name with either a serious or angry tone… I knew there was trouble brewing. (Though, to be honest, usually it was my brother’s name… but I digress). However, when I heard my mom yell my name twice in quick succession,

Until I was about 40 years old, I called God, God. That’s not all that unusual. After all, that is what most of us learned to call him. It’s the name we use when we talk about him and to him. Several years ago, however, I learned a new posture toward God. I more often, now, call him Father or Dad. I have been captivated at the informal, intimate, and relational way by which Jesus approached his Father as well as how we taught and modeled for us to do the same.

I wrote the following article before my son was in a very scary car accident this past week. The love and care my son and our family have been shown as he heals just reaffirms everything I wrote.

I broke AI a few weeks ago—okay, that might be a slight overstatement, but I did stump three different platforms in what I consider to be the easiest trivia category on planet Earth. Let me illustrate how it went…

I’m in a season where I’m doing a lot of premarital counseling. It’s been a while, so I’ve spent the last month refreshing myself on the content and preparing for these conversations.
What’s interesting is that it’s happening at the same time our church is in a series on relationships. It’s one of those moments where you can see God connecting dots.

My freshman year of college was rough. I grew up in Oxford, OH so it was an easy decision to live at home and attend Miami University just after high school. What I didn’t know was how different life was for a commuter college student from being a high school senior. I learned quickly. I worked three jobs in my freshman year while taking a full load of classes. Because I was a commuter (and not very sociable) I didn’t have many friends. I was lonely and didn’t have much time
