There was a question that I heard a few years ago that truly made me stop in my tracks. I had been a Christian most of my life but had never heard this question. There is a point, I think, in every follower of Jesus’s life where one is faced with a jarring reality.

Relationships modify behaviors. I noticed this several years into my marriage, in particular. I never used to read in bed before turning out the lights. I was accustomed to crawling into bed, turning out the lights, and waiting to drift to sleep. I noticed that my wife, however, would keep her light on and read for a while before sleeping. This was not my habit. However, after years...

Have you ever experienced a time when you notice something new and then everywhere you look, you see it? Maybe you just bought a white car and now everywhere you look you see white cars.

I wrote the following article before my son was in a very scary car accident this past week. The love and care my son and our family have been shown as he heals just reaffirms everything I wrote.

My freshman year of college was rough. I grew up in Oxford, OH so it was an easy decision to live at home and attend Miami University just after high school. What I didn’t know was how different life was for a commuter college student from being a high school senior. I learned quickly. I worked three jobs in my freshman year while taking a full load of classes. Because I was a commuter (and not very sociable) I didn’t have many friends. I was lonely and didn’t have much time

I’ll believe it when I see it. How many times have you said that? About anything. Perhaps the context is when you talk about a family member making a change in their life. Perhaps you’re referring to a promise made by your boss. Whatever the case may be, we are people who naturally doubt. We need to see the actionable evidence of something before we will put our complete trust in it.

I hate roller coasters. I always have. Growing up, when all of my friends were itching to go to King’s Island and ride all of the rides, I was afraid. I avoided going to amusement parks with my friends because I was embarrassed at my fear. (The first time I rode a coaster at King’s Island was to impress a girl I liked at the time. I was almost physically sick). Here’s the reality. I know that my fear was basically irrational.
